If you are going to manage remote teams effectively, first you need to manage your own time well. Time is a precious commodity. We can't make time, only lose it. I’ll start with my favourite time management tip:
  • Don't book one hour meetings just because it’s a convenient time unit. Create shorter meetings, starting at 20 minutes.
  • When significant issues arise during a meeting, taken them off-line if they are likely to cause the meeting to overrun.
  • Create a daily to-do list to keep you focused on achieving your objectives.
  • Give your brain a twice daily break for 10 to 15 minutes with no email, phone, meetings, social media, etc.
Keep it fresh.

Remote working has become a new norm due to the onset of Covid19. While it has some advantages, it can be monotonous after some time as one misses the facetime of colleagues and a work environment. One may not put necessary hours because no one is there to watch you. Under the circumstances, it is important to plan enough work with a deadline in advance. It is also necessary to have daily catchup for a short duration to check on the status. A good resource management tool that has team collaboration capability can help here.
