I'm sure you are inundated with questions like this, but if you wouldn't mind helping me find an appropriate software tool to address my challenges I'd be grateful.
I need software that:
has the following organization: Department->Group->Project
can assign leaders and participants to projects
can define variables such as urgency, importance and I can search and sort projects based on these criteria
can establish timelines with defined goals
If you could point me in the direction of appropriate software, I'd be most thankful.
Hello dsinn - I am not sure if you are still looking for some guidance, but thought I might put in my 2 cents. You might try Jacob Alan Solutions. We have used them in the past and was able to accomplish all of our needs. They develop custom business management systems that have very easy to use web based interfaces. They have a variety of off the shelf project management modules, which allow project leaders to set roles/responsibilities within a project, set and track activities, develop project plans, plan and mitigate risk, plus several others. All of their tools are very easy to use and at a reasonably low cost.
However, for scheduling software we utilize MS Project Professional. In my opinion, it is hard to beat for laying out all project activities and establishing relationships.
In my experience, we have used others such as Planview, Primavera, Project Server, plus some other custom developed software. You will get a lot of power utilizing the enterprise type systems, but the custom built systems provide a unique aspect and can be specifically tailored to your business needs.
