Hi there,
I have a slight issue I'm hoping this board can help me with.
This is my first role within project management. I am a PMO Analyst within an IT firm. We have a new boss who started a couple of weeks ago and as such is keen to introduce some much needed, if I do say so myself, changes into the department starting with the programme reporting. With my former boss, I was limited to mainly ad-hoc admin duties and as such I don't feel too confident as an experienced PMO Analyst and was really looking forward to working with this new boss. Now with the reporting, new boss has created a template we are going forward with but she wants me to come up with a slide to present to PMs about what the reporting schedule will be, what the criteria requires of them as well as how I plan to ensure I get the most accurate information before the report goes to the exec. I have no problem with the first two but the last one has been giving me a headache.
I will be getting weekly updates from 8 project managers and short of coming up with a weekly 1hr time slots for myself and each PM to discuss project progress against plan + risk and issues - which I told her about but she didn't seem impressed - I am not sure what else I can do.
I don't want her to think I'm not intelligent enough for the role although I'm beginning to believe so myself.
Is there anyone else who has ever been in the same situation or who can offer suggestions - if my predicament makes any sense. I welcome all advice and suggestions.
Thank you very much,
B
Help!
Hi,
Can the template by hosted on a network drive (or Google Docs) for all to access? As a lot of PM's are required to report on progress the template needs to be clear and unabiguous. A one off meeting to dicuss the template and how to complete it might be required.
I suggest the below:
The Prog Manager needs to tell you what information they and other Executives need. I presume the template they have designed captures all the info they need.
Does that help?
Thanks,
Kit

I suggest the below:
- Design the new template with absolute answers (no subjectivity)
- Prog Manager proves revised template
- Dessiminate template to all PM's for review
- Book a one off 'template review meeting'
- Present the template via a slide show on a projector and have a Q/A session with all PMs
