Hello all!

I am new to the forums, so first and foremost Hello! I hope to leech some of the knowledge and experiences you all bring to the table!

So, I have taken a huge interest in the PM field. First, I'll give you all a little background. I am currently finishing my degree in Technical Management with a Major in Project Management and a minor in Business Admin. I'm finishing my degree at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. I'm not sure exactly what kind of projects i would be interested in managing at the moment; but, i am leaning towards construction or architecture.

I served 4 years as an Aviation Ordnanceman in the Marines. However, as you can guess, there aren't a whole lot of weapons specialist jobs in the civilian world. The day after i was released with an Honorable Discharge, I starting working at General Atomics Aeronautical as a Technical Writer. After working there for a bit under a year, I left on good terms due to unavoidable family circumstances. (Mother got cancer and needed assistance/transportation) I have not been in the workforce for roughly 1 1/2 years. I have been focusing on school full time in order to finish my degree. I will have it completed (Hopefully) by the end of this year putting my BS at 2 1/2 years!

I have read many forums/websites about how many come into the PM field. Most of which, have worked at their company a long time and kind of end up in the PM field. However, I am looking to start out in either the PM field or get a job that offers great experience in becoming a PM. I have applied for numerous Business Analyst/Project Team Member/ Assistant PM etc... jobs. I have had zero luck so far. I believe that may be due to my lack of direct experience in those fields but i believe it may also be my resume.

So this post is to communicate with all of you Professionals in PM or HR that can offer some constructive criticism or any assistance that can help me. I will attach a copy of my "Basic" resume. I obviously tailor each one a little different for the job i'm applying for.

I would like to point out that I am not only here to get assistance to land a job then never come back to the forum. I have read and learned a good bit about the PM field and believe forums like this can offer great value in becoming a great PM. These forums can offer valuable experiences of what methods may have worked well/horrible for some of you in the past.

Anyway, I do apologize for the exceptionally lengthy first post. I figured it would offer a bit more to work with if you know a bit about me and my previous work experience. If you would like to know anything more about me or my previous experiences, feel free to reply.

Cheers,
-Josh

Hi Josh,

I would highly recommend speaking to Arras People and for you to gain their professional advice, rather than us commenting on the forum. They offer a CV consultation service which I can advocate through my personal experience of using them.

Book a session with them:

FYI - I have no commercial affiliation to Arras People and this is a genuine recommendation.

Thanks
Kit
