Been recently placed as junior project manager and I am involved within different projects. I am looking for a user friendly project management tool where I can track status of all the projects that I am working on.
Main purpose of the tool that I am looking for would be giving information about :
Status of the project
Dashboard facility where all the projects can be viewed in one single page.
Generate Reports etc.
As of now I am involved with 4 projects and we have small team so tracking resources won't be a problem, but tracking project status is a big issue that I have noticed.
I am sure you can do all of this in MS Project 2010.
I know you can import multiple projects and by using the Status date facility you can track project status to any given point in time (in the past of course).
Yes, MS Project can do this for you. However, there are probably about 100 other options - and maybe more - out there that will likely cost far less than getting MS Project licenses for your organization. I've been creating a page on my site that provides links to and articles on some of the top offerings in the PM Tools marketplace and the list is growing. Click on the logos to go to their sites and if there is an article under the logo, check it out for more info on product features, etc. The page is located here: http://www.bradegeland.com/pm-solution-providers.html
And keep searching, there are other lists and locations providing information on the many offerings. I've also created a LinkedIn group where you can offering thoughts or ask questions about this topic as well. The LinkedIn group is here: http://www.linkedin.com/groups/PM-Produ ... ls-4895554
Feel free to join it if you need more info....

Since you are only looking for status update, dashboard and report generation so I'll suggest you to go for a web based project management tool like basecamp, zoho, asana, proofhub, etc. as they have necessary features for the same. I am saying so because like you I also started out handling small projects and had a small team to cater to and I chose proofhub which helped me manage all my projects efficiently and effectively.
