Here are some favourite 'ladder' quotes:
  • Some people are at the top of the ladder, some are in the middle, still more are at the bottom, and a whole lot more don't even know there is a ladder. Robert H. Schuller.

The toughest part of getting to the top of the ladder is getting through the crowd at the bottom. Anonymous.

You can't climb up to the second floor without a ladder. When you set your aim too high and don't fulfil it, then your enthusiasm turns to bitterness. Try for a goal that's reasonable, and then gradually raise it. Emil Zatopek.

Management is efficiency in climbing the ladder of success; leadership determines whether the ladder is leaning against the right wall. Stephen Covey.
A few lucky people have an express elevator to the top, but most of us have to struggle up from the bottom with splinters and all.

Hi, that is a rather cynical view of ambition and progress in the business world.

I would thoroughly recommend that you obtain a copy of "Napoleon Hill - Law of Success" and listen to his teachings daily until you internalise his philosophy of life. You can either buy an original or download a torrent its up to you, the key factor is to learn the lessons if by heart.

As for progress up the corporate ladder, there are two distinct methods, you can either take the negative method and claw your way to the top by treating everyone as an obstacle and down-treading them at every opportunity or you can become a facilitator in their career by working hard and offering them a leg-up at every opportunity.

The first way will gain you many enemies who by nature will realise your greatest fears, the second will cultivate many good friends who will be only to happy to reach out a helping hand in the way of mentoring you and giving you opportunities that would not normally come your way.

The choice is yours.

Always remember the best way to a better job is to add value to your own service offering.

So in terms of Project Management you do not define the outline business case but go straight onto the planning of stages. lol.

Quote: An archer without a target hits nothing.

I learnt from bitter experience that everyone should define their ultimate goal in life and keep it firmly fixated in the front of their mind. Then, every activity they do should be aimed at taking them closer to achieving that ultimate goal.

I also have learnt, be it a little to late, the health of your CV is akin to the health of your body; never ever do anything that puts your CV in jeopardy. Choose an ultimate goal in an area that you absolutely love (one that you would willing work for no pay if the necessity called for it) and then focus (almost insanely) all your efforts (jobs) to obtaining the highest level in that field and therefore in obtaining that ultimate goal.
