Hi,

I’m a PS Manager for a smallish solutions company and we’re considering using a third party company to outsource all P2 project support/admin work to on a 'project by project' basis. We are hoping to free up internal PM resources and cope better with the erratic arrival of projects. We do not have the luxury of a PMO!

Does anyone have any experience of doing this and any lessons that were learned?

Did it work and actually increase the PM’s capacity and capability without increasing costs?

Who did you use and how much?

All help will be appreciated,
Thanks.

Hi there,

We outsource project support and it works well in freeing up some PM time. However, your PMs need to keep control and work closely with the other party. Basically, they‘ll do the work under instruction from the PM. They will take care of raising purchase orders, keeping records, budgets updated, holiday planning, etc. So, yes it can help PMs focus on project delivery and less on administration.

I hope this helps,
Duncan

It's a good thought to outsource your project to a genuine company who can do the work with diligence and time. You can start by identifying the top players in the market, decide on your budget, and go through some case studies or testimonials to select the right company. It'll save you money and also get experts from outside the organization.
