I am a Polymer Processing Engineer and working as Production coordinator in a well reputed organization

I want to move toward Project Management, after getting PMP certification.

Some one told me that PMP is for IT related professionals, not helpful of chemical / Mechanical / Electrical engineers.

Can anyone help me getting right direction.

I need your valuable comments.

Thanks
Mudasir

Hi Mudasir,

The company I work for has a Project Management Recruitment division that supplies project managers at all levels across a wide variety of sectors.

I wouldn't say that PMP is geared only towards IT related professionals, project management processes can be applied to any type / size of project, and PMP credential is well recognised so will definitely enhance your CV. What you need to do however is clearly define your cross transferable skills from your current experience - with competition for jobs increasing you need to make the first page of your CV stand out.

I'd recommend that initially you attempt to find a PM role within the field you have gained experience in, this will make the transition easier for you but also easier to find a PM role.

Kind regards,

Baz
