Put simply, I love this TED Talk! The principles can be applied to the real world and the point made is very profound:

Simon Sinek: How great leaders inspire action

Thanks Kit.

Great talk. “People don’t buy what you do, but why you do it”. Very interesting. Seems obvious now I’ve heard it, but that sums up the problem.

Hi Duncan,

I was talking to my manager at work about this today. Although it seems obvious when pointed out, but the point he makes totally makes sense and has been evidenced frequently. I think it could be applied with job interviews. We all have PM skills and deliver projects to time, cost, quality, but why we do it really conveys our enthusiasm & passion for the PM domain.

Thanks,
Kit

Hi Kit,

I agree with your point about interviews. Recently, my company took on a young, inexperienced guy keen to become a project manager. What impressed me about him during his interview, was not his qualifications, but his drive and determination. He wants a career as a project manager, because that's what he enjoys doing and where he see he can add value to the organisation.

So, agreed, it pays off to focus on why you do something and not on what you do.

Thanks,
Duncan
