Re: Pursuing Project Management Without a Degree
Mayaa Project Manager was one of 5 jobs listed on (MSN or Yahoo) a few years ago as 'Well paid jobs that you don't need a degree for'. The others were Train Driver, Police Officer, Estate Agent, IT Support Specialist. I agree with Kwalford. I don't have a degree but PM has given me a real career goa...

Re: PRINCE2 - Studying and Preparing for Practitioner Exam
As has been alluded to PRINCE2 is very dry to learn. For those who are studying it, there's a complete 101 page sample of a PRINCE2 project set of documents here: http://www.skillpower.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/SampleProject.pdf Its actually quite useful to see all those documents and tools i...

Re: How do I become a Software Project Manager in three years?
Sinha I believe the latter part of Duncan's assessment of the situation is extremely important when it comes to performing in your role as a PM. Whether its your profession, or whether PM is part of a a more diverse role, you are going to need those soft skills to survive and thrive. I'll put it blu...

Re: PRINCE2 - Studying and Preparing for Practitioner Exam
I sat my exam at 360 GSP in Wembley. I believe the test provider for this was EXIN. Exam was around £150 if I remember right. I believe if you are self motivated you can get through the foundation with self study and no structured course. Going on what others have said self study for Practitioner is...

A Question Regarding Risk
Dear All, I'm managing a small project to install a sound system into a sports hall. I'm not a PM by profession, but PM is becoming an increasing and welcome part of my role. Have identified a number of risks, although they aren't really risks to the project, but more or less risks to the product on...

Re: Unplanned Leave
I faced a similar-ish scenario although was managing a project of which involved an IT System being implemented by a 3rd party supplier. To cut a long story short the two 3rd party techies who were installing the new system resigned on the spot and left for a better offer elsewhere. Transpired they ...

Re: A Project Management Paradox: Entering the PM Profession
Prince2 is like the iPhone of Project Managment certifications, eveyone has got one! In my opinion, you need to stand out from crowd with a certificate which is more challenging and shows a greater level of learning, thanks, Kit. Interesting take on things. Cannot argue with that statement at all. ...

Re: A Project Management Paradox: Entering the PM Profession
Purely from an IT point of view. First of all I am not employed as a Project Manager but as 2nd/3rd line IT support. However, I have been lucky enough to have been allowed to work on the management of projects and have built up a reasonable amount of competence in this area. This is the natural 'way...
