Re: How to Kick Start a Project

Duncan, since you covered the process of coming in to take over and restart a stalled project very nicely, I thought I would discuss coming in to kickoff a new project, but I see you included a link to my article on that very topic. Thanks! So, in a nutshell, what I do is: Get the statement of work ...

Most wanted characteristic in your PMO Director?

If you are a PM in a project management office (PMO) or if you wish your organization had a PMO, what 'feature' or characteristic of the PMO Director would be at the top of your wish list? Or if you already have a great PMO Director in place (or even if that's YOU), what is the quality or characteri...

Re: Have you ever used a social media platform for collaboration on a project?

Agreed - the status report and internal weekly team meeting calls or F2F meetings really have to be happening for maximum communication and effectiveness. But something like a Facebook group can definitely encourage adhoc communication. It helps keep team collaboration going without things getting l...

Re: Effective communications!

Kit - good idea on the introductory phone call before the email. If that still isn't getting the response then a followup phone call after the email - a couple of days later - should help. But the suggesting for putting the deadline on there is a good idea - and send a followup email the day before ...

Re: Have you ever used a social media platform for collaboration on a project?

I've personally used a Facebook group before for internal communication on my project team - but nothing involving the project client...yet.

Have you ever used a social media platform for collaboration on a project?

Question - have you ever used a social media platform as a collaboration tool on a project? A Facebook group, for example, or some other mechanism for sharing information? If you have, what did you use, how did you use it, and how successful was it?

Re: How do we know if a project is successful? How do we measure success?

The detailed answers and discussion that is happening in reference to this question is great. My own short answer on this is three criteria: On time delivery (within a given +/- range) On budget delivery (again, within a given +/- range, but 10% is usually acceptable for success) Customer satisfacti...

Re: Your worst project management experience?

Ok...so NO ONE has had a bad project experience? I see lots of views, but no posts about experiences. I'll be the first to share. I've had a few bad ones, but I think possibly the worst was when my Business Analyst who was with me during some onsite customer functional requirements meetings followin...

Re: What is your Project Management Software tool of choice?

I, too, agree on MS Excel. I use it every day for something. On projects I'm always using it to track risks, issues, and financials. I've got a budget/financial forecast template that basically builds in the resource forecast and I update the forecast every week with actuals so I know how much over ...
