Re: Moving From an Environmental Consultant to a Project Manager - Options?
Very true regarding soft skills. Dare I say these generally come with general life experience or managing small low risk projects in your existing role. Would definitely recommend PRINCE2 although would agree do not expect this alone to get you a job in PM. If you are one of those ultra sharp, info...

Re: Moving From an Environmental Consultant to a Project Manager - Options?
My advice is this. Go ahead and take the Prince2 training but do it so that you understand the project methodology and how to properly execute and document a project. Don't do it expecting that a company will hire you based on you having the Prince2 certification. Over here in North America we have ...

Re: PMP Application Advice
There's always a risk they they will audit you and turn you down even with legitimate project work experience. The good thing is that you won't be allowed to take the exam until they approve of your application. I remember there is some rule in the application as to what timeframe your experience co...

Re: Wanting to become a PM from a developer role
I'm guessing you meant to say "... there are NO vacancies for me to branch out and start doing pm work to gain experience." Well you are in a tough pickle for sure. In fact, I don't really see any way in your current job will lead to you becoming a PM. PM is a position not unlike managemen...

Re: How to Find a Great PMP Mock Exam Online
I also agree with Cornelius and Dhaughey. A mock exam helped me in simulating a real exam. I understood how long I had to concentrate for and it prepared me for things I never considered such as washroom breaks and hunger as lots can happen in 4 hr Definitely recommend doing at least 1 mock exam of ...

Re: The Seven Questions Every PMP Exam Student Asks Their Coach
I echo what Cornelius advises. All 7 of his points are truthful and provides plenty of insight. In fact most if not all the info here was reiterated by my prof for my exam boot camp that I took. And the other very freaky fact is I too studied 2-3hrs over a span of 2 months so its almost bang on to w...

Re: PMO KPI's
Great article Dhaughey. Starim: If the article KPI's are not relevant for your project than I would suggest my method. I review my project and figure out the metrics that would matter most to the stakeholders that I will be presenting to and use those as my KPI's. Ultimately the KPI needs to measure...

Re: Is experience as a Game producer relevant to PM?
Hi Hoddle: First off in response to your inquiry, that its not necessary to be a PM in order to become a BA. They are in fact very different roles so not sure how you got to thinking that way. As a PM, sometimes in small companies you have to do the BA role, but they like I said are completely diffe...

Re: 5 Questions For Those Who Passed the PMP Exam
So as promised an update on my exam results and with great joy & relief (since the whole dept knew that I was taking the test) I am now a certified PMP! I will answer my own 5 questions as well. 1) What year did you take and pass the exam? A) 2015 2) Did you pass on your first try and if not how...

Re: 5 Questions For Those Who Passed the PMP Exam
Thx for the tip Dhaughey. I just finished a 5 day boot camp prep exam course from Global Knowledge and now well schooled in all the Earned Value formulas that you mentioned in your posting. They are easy to do and hard to get a wrong answer since its mathematical (not subjective) so I hope I get a l...
