'Junior' Project Management Roles

Evening all. Am at the stage now where all the work over the last 2 years is coming to the point of applying for jobs in a PMO environment. Have noticed some jobs advertised as a 'Junior Project Manager'. Can anyone shed any light onto this title? Is this Junior as in age related? Or as in responsib...

Re: What do you think about instinctive managers?

Agree that good managers are able to make instinctive decisions that usually turn out for the best. However, its not uncommon that a perceived good instinct can correlate with years of experience too. My father told me this and I've no reason to disbelieve him. I'd made some good decisions in a proj...

Re: Risk Register

Would anyone consider including the 'risk cost' in the register? Or would you rather this handled elsewhere? Maybe in a risk budget document?

I believe risk cost was probability of risk multiplied by the total estimated cost of a particular risk. I could be wrong.

Re: Best/cheapest online PRINCE2 Foundation course with exam included

I've said it before on here before, but the major factor in learning any subject and passing the exam is your own level of self motivation. I'm not particularly academic, or one of those with a knack of absorbing tons of information with irritating efficiency(!) What I would do though, is to suggest...

Re: How long does PRINCE2 Foundation/Practitioner take to achieve?

The most important factor in all this is that different people learn at different speeds. Some (not me) can absorb the information in one sitting and pass the exam first time. Others need more time and extra stimulation in order to prepare properly. Neither factors have any bearing on ability to app...

Re: Have the Right Mindset for Your PMP Exam

Have pondered PMP but do not have enough project management hours under my belt. Probably up to around 2000 so not even halfway. May consider this in the future, although I've rarely seen it advertised as a must have in UK PM related roles. Seems to be a lot more popular in North America. Did some p...

Re: PRINCE2 - Studying and Preparing for Practitioner Exam

Joined a large government based organisation and now find myself in a project environment. PRINCE2 is a good tool but APMP is the tool used, so next stop is APMP. Learned a lot about critical path analysis and the two are very similar in terms of language but written exams are a sticky point with m...

Re: PRINCE2 - Is it worth it?

Thank you for that link David, was a very worthwhile read. Having just passed the APMP, I have been offered membership of the APM at half price. Would appear there could be some useful 'virtual mentoring' within that organisation. Membership promises knowledge sharing and useful tools and techniques...

Re: PRINCE2 - Is it worth it?

David I guess for those wanting to enter the PM Profession, this means first of all gaining a role in the project support office. Maybe if you have PM qualifications and some experience in successfully running small projects, then you could look at an Assistant PM role. This way you will have natura...

Re: Moving from a senior admin role to project work

Duncan Unfortunately have absolutely no knowledge on six sigma or SCRUM. My present role is actually 'Senior ICT Analyst' which started out as a primarily technical support role. However, I've 'fallen' into managing projects and actually find this a lot more enjoyable than the techie stuff. Finally ...
