Re: How to Engage Your Team Members
Hi, I know this is a slightly nebulous answer, but you need the team to take ownership of aspects of work (work packages) and you to delegate it to them entirely until conclusion. The principle I use is to give the team the goal and they work out themselves how to get there! Also, get the team to re...

Re: APMP for PRINCE2 Practitioners
Hi, I am Prince2 and APMP. As a Prince 2 accredited person, you can sit the 2 hour exam (rather than the 3 hour exam). You basically have a cut down syllabus. You can get the syllabus from the APMP website. I found the 'soft skills' I learnt on the course very good. You will learn a lot more than Pr...

Re: Project/Portfolio Retrospective - Effective Usage?
Hi aww91, Are your projects internal or external to customers? My view is that understanding the variance in work estimates proves valuable for incorporating into future projects. This would involve comparing targets Vs actual estimates, of course. Also, tracking the number of change requests too; a...

Re: I don't think I want to be a PM
Hi, Interesting post. My first observation is that you seem to be in a admin oriented role which is exactly what it says on the tin, admin! Your current project role seems to be assisting a PM rather than the PM itself. When you get involved in engaging with stakeholders, problem solving and seeing ...

Re: How Can we Simplify Projects: Two pizza teams, etc.
Hi Duncan,
The lack of people with MS Project software installed does inhibit its potential somewhat. I was also finding myself sending over JPEGs etc of the MSP files and every schedule change meant a new file being sent! The benefit of excel is that everyone has it on their PC!
Thanks
Kit

Re: How Can we Simplify Projects: Two pizza teams, etc.
Hi Duncan, Brilliant post! We have previously discussed this within our PMO. I think there is a real risk of being bureaucratic with projects and the trick is to only do things which add value. For instance, we use to take ages writing tailored (detailed) project plans whereas now we have a standard...

Re: New PM article up on the blog: Estimating Project Work Gone Wrong
Good article Brad. The other thing I would add is to get the person actually doing the work to estimate, and also commit to the estimate.
As estimates are a forecast of the future, they are likely to require refinement as time progresses too.
Thanks
Kit
