Categories of Communications? Need Advice.

I'm working on a paper on the topic of communication management within an engineering project. I'd like to start the article by discussing the purpose of project communications. I have come up with five basic categories/reasons/purposes of project communications so far, but would like to query this ...

Re: 12 project management tools to check out for 2016 - what's your favorite?

Does anyone know of a good Risk Management software solution? We've created our own SQL-based risk register/tracking program, but it's pretty rough and cumbersome to use. Would love to know of a robust, user-friendly commercial solution.

Re: The Challenges and Difficulties of Managing Large Technology Projects

As the deputy-PM of a very large technology project ( http://dkist.nso.edu/ ) I can tell you firsthand that all the normal requirements of management apply, such as scope/quality/cost/schedule management, risk management, the need for high-quality/motivated team members, solid stakeholder engagement...

Re: Scope, Cost and Schedule Accountability

Thanks for your reply bigbug! However, in your example, it would look as if the PM is in fact Accountable for the "whole" (scope (quality), cost and schedule), and he/she has then split the Responsibility between two persons reporting to him. Yes, this is exactly the case. In my experienc...

Re: RFP Proposals

By putting the RFP "on the street," I take it to mean you've advertised it in the appropriate journals, websites, or publications. We do the same on our project, but we also actively approach qualified firms that we'd like to bid. We direct them to our website, where the RFP is available, ...

Re: Scope, Cost and Schedule Accountability

Yes, two separate individuals can be responsible for the different aspects. In fact, there can be three separate divisions. For example, on large science-based engineering projects, like the one I'm working on ( http://dkist.nso.edu/ ) the chief engineer/systems engineer is responsible for scope and...
