Re: Advice Needed for New Project Manager - Scoping

Hi EllaKopella Sounds to me like you have a similar role to me. I'm the PM for our IT projects. However, I also have some senior user responsibilities as I work for the IT Helpdesk and will be supporting the projects products. On top of this I'm often supplying kit and installation services, so have...

Re: Business Case or PID?

If you are referring to PRINCE2. The Project Initiation Document is a set of documents. Created during the Initiating a Project Process. Documents include the Project Plan, Management Strategies and the refined Business Case. The Outline Business Case is created earlier on during the starting up a p...

Re: Project Management Team vs Project Manager

The project management team should consist of users, suppliers and the project sponsor/executive. They can be backed up by user, supplier and business assurance too. Would suggest you study a Prince2 or APMP Foundation course to get a high level overview of such matters. There's plenty of study guid...

Re: PRINCE2 Training Provider

I'd like to think that most training providers are of a good standard. Provek and Parallel Project Training seem to be two who are highly rated. However, the Practitioner course I went on at QA training was very good. I've heard good things about Global Knowledge too. If you are thinking of doing th...

Re: PRINCE2 Foundation Passed in 2008

Just my own advice. But I'd retake the present foundation exam as a matter of course anyway. The momentum that you build up with this should provide a solid platform from which to embark on your practitioner study.

Good luck.

Re: APMP for PRINCE2 Practitioners

Having covered most of a recommended APMP study guide, I can honestly say this is probably the most relevant accreditation for those seeking a move into PM. Maybe I should have done this prior to PRINCE2(!) However, with hindsight I'd say gaining PRINCE2 accreditation put me in a stronger position t...

Re: Moving From an Environmental Consultant to a Project Manager - Options?

That's sad that a prestigious certificate has been devalued somewhat by a lack of scrutiny of its applicants. I guess at least, unlike a lot of technical IT qualifications you can't 'cheat' by braindumping the exams. This is also the case of PRINCE2 and APMP. At the very least you have to put in som...

Re: Moving From an Environmental Consultant to a Project Manager - Options?

Very true regarding soft skills. Dare I say these generally come with general life experience or managing small low risk projects in your existing role. Would definitely recommend PRINCE2 although would agree do not expect this alone to get you a job in PM. If you are one of those ultra sharp, infor...

Re: PRINCE2 - Studying and Preparing for Practitioner Exam

Congratulations Topbanana. Did you manage to find those practice exams by any chance? They were the best prep of all for me.

Take a look at APMP too. From initial experience this exam covers quite a lot of what Prince2 doesn't cover.

APMP for PRINCE2 Practitioners

Hi All Am seriously considering APMP. PRINCE2 has given me a sound framework of which to base my projects on. Have found it very useful overall. Arguably the biggest positive is that its brought my documentation capabilities up to a far more professional standard. However, I'd like to delve in a lit...
