Re: IT Project Manager or Web Project Manager
I would stick with the IT Project Manager designation. It will be fairly clear from your recent experience that you've focused on Web Project Management and you can go into greater detail on that in a cover letter or interview format. But stating web project manager only may pigeon hole you and caus...

Re: Pursuing Project Management Without a Degree
Mayaa- Kit is correct. I've worked with several successful project managers who did not have degrees. Likewise, I've worked with developers and business analysts and other related professionals who have gotten into their profession and advanced nicely without degrees. They keys are to have a desire ...

Re: Project Management Software
I have primarily used MS Project for the projects I've managed, though I've spent at least some time looking at dozens of different PM software packages. You can find some good feature comparison charts online by searching for "project management software", "project management softwar...

What are you using for a Risk Management Tool?
What are others on here using for a risk management tool? I've rarely used a specific automated risk management tool. I've always held risk discussions with project stakeholders, documented potential risks and plans to mitigate or avoid those risks and then reported regularly during the project on t...

Re: False Deadline
Besides wanting to hit someone really hard? Games like that on projects should not be something that the project manager should have to endure...given everything else that they deal with such like managing the team and conflicts daily, communication, task accountability, major decision making with l...

Re: How Much Project Management Time?
I agree with Duncan - 10-20% is the general rule of thumb for most of the more "structured" organizations I've worked in. The last organization I worked with estimated all PM activities at 20% of the overall project effort. Reality may have been a bit different, but that was the plan :) Brad

Re: Starting a PMO in your organization. What should happen first?
I'm going to reply first even though this is my own question/post. I think there are so many "firsts" that should probably happen, but to me the most important thing is to first get the right person - or PMO Director - in place. That person needs to help shape the PMO and all the process, ...
